2 oz. Aussie Coin

Howdy all,

I guess this is just as much a intro post as anything else. I started collecting coins and bars a few months back, every payday I've been going and picking at least something up. The first few paychecks of the month I don't usually have too much extra money to put aside, those pesky bills. Well today was one of the days I didn't have too much extra to spend but I managed to pick up something from a local coin dealer that seems to be a little out of the ordinary.

I picked up a 2 oz. Australian Kookaburra silver coin 1992. It was the best deal they had on silver aside from 1 oz. bars and I wanted to add something a little different to my small, but growing collection. Anyone else have any of these 2 oz. coins?

Welcome to the forum. I also use what is left of each paycheck after bills to buy silver (or gold). That works for me IMHO.

Nice grab!

You picked-up one of the most beautiful silver coins ever made. Congrats.

From a historic point-of-view, you might enjoy a Morgan silver dollar as well.

But then again, as has been said a thousand times on this site, an ounce of silver ( or gold ) is just that, an ounce of silver ( or gold ) and that is why so many, like myself, perfer 90% junk silver for our primary insurance. More bang for the buck.

Thanks for joining GIM. Enjoy and feel free to express your opinions.

There are lots of good people in Minnesota. I've met a few. And one of them was instrumental in starting this site.

I guess it would be safe to say that a few of us are into Kooks (tongue firmly in cheek). There might even be a Kook fanatic or two hiding here and there on GIM.

Here's a 10 oz 2007. From the bird's expression, it is coming to get me.

There is a picture of a 1991 below that.

Welcome to GIM GunNut! :10_1_20:

Kookaburras are really nice, as are many Perth Mint issues. For me, they are more for fun and are kept aside from the strictly bullion stuff.

The 2007 that Tom posted is the sharpest looking one that I have so far. Still have a lot of holes in the ole' one ounce Kook set I'm working on.

Thanks for the welcome folks. Nice 10 oz. coins...I haven't had any luck locally finding more than 1 oz bars, at least from a shop within a 10 mile drive from my house. Right now I have a very well worn morgan silver dollar, a few liberty half dollars, some bars and a few 1/10 Gold eagles.

I imagine collecting gold and silver is a lot like collecting firearms and ammo, esp. when you first start out. You collect whatever you can afford to get your hands on and you're worried it isn't enough, to be prepared. Then a few years later, you start to look at what you got. Then you figure, you have prepared yourself better than most folks.

Well as much as you guys have guessed, my main interest is fireamarms. I have nice mixture of them, just like coins...smaller than some, bigger than others. Rim fires, shot guns, pistols, EBR's (evil black rifles), hunting rifles and my biggest one...my belt fed 1919a4 30 cal. BMG.

I look forward to learing and contributing to this forum.

Don
